Meet the Programmes Team
Young people spend 190 days a year in school, and what they eat there is incredibly important. That’s why we’re helping to build a world where all children have the chance to be healthy — no matter where we go to school.
Bite Back in Schools is our fully funded programme that empowers students in Years 7–10 (S1–S4 in Scotland) to lead positive change in their school food environment.
Through assemblies, interactive sessions, and the School Food Champions club, students explore food system inequalities and design social action projects that make healthy food the easy choice.
Meet the people behind the programme, and the friendly faces that will support you on your journey to create healthier lunchtimes for everyone.
Daniel
Head of Programmes
Dan yearns for peace from Big Food but only finds it on the tube — because that’s where junk food ads are a no-show! “Some schools and councils have already listened to young people and are shaping their spaces to be places where the healthy option is the easy option.” As our Head of Programmes, Dan is determined to make this the new normal — leading cohorts of schools across the UK. After navigating three General Elections in five years while working in Parliament, he’s convinced that change is possible!
Andy
Programmes Manager
Armed with a paintbrush and a vision, Andy envisions a world with equal access to healthy food, where socio-economic health disparities fade away like a bad memory. As our Programmes Manager, he draws on a decade of experience in education and charity work through our Bite Back in Schools programme, championing young people’s right to delicious and nutritious food, and a solid education. He muses, “In a world with equal access to healthy food, socio-economic health disparities would diminish. Young people from all backgrounds would have the same opportunities for a healthy life.”

Katie
Senior Programmes & Policy Manager
Leading Bite Back’s first steps into Scotland, Katie brings over a decade of experience in systems change and working alongside young activists to reshape the world for the better. She’s now channelling all her energy into taking on the food industry - where winning is the only outcome she’s planned. In her vision, “Young people would have the freedom to fuel their bodies and minds without constant manipulation, unlocking more energy, confidence and headspace for the things they care about. Imagine what we could all achieve if we were properly fuelled!,” says Katie.
Destiny
Programmes Executive
Moving from youth activist to staff member, Destiny brings more than insight — she brings lived experience. “As part of the younger generation, I’ve seen how junk food giants hijack meme culture and trends to make their brands feel ‘cool’,” she says. “It's time that these brands stop making a mockery of our health.” Now a Programmes Executive, Destiny supports and inspires young people across the country, and even internationally through her work facilitating UNICEF Jamaica workshops. She knows exactly what it takes to turn youth voice into real-world impact.

Czarleen
Programmes and Projects Executive
Coming from a previous role at the Jamie Oliver Group, Czarleen’s all clued up on tasty food. Now, she’s on a mission to make sure every child has access to healthy food; in schools, communities, and across the UK. And as our Programmes and Projects Executive, Czarleen is on the ground delivering our future-shaping programmes everyday, and empowering young people to lead change that matters to them.
Alongside our team, we have our Bite Back in Schools Ambassadors.
Young people going into schools on a mission to turn passion into action. They travel across the country, bringing their own stories and experiences to deliver assemblies that will inspire the next generation to take action in their schools.
Coming directly from Bite Back’s Youth Board, they know what it’s like growing up in a world where our health does not come first, and what it takes to Bite Back against giant food companies that have put the health of our generation at risk..
Why we do this work
Healthy food in schools should be a no-brainer. But right now, young people are being let down by a system that puts profit before health, and all too often, they’re shut out of the conversation.
Through the work we do in Bite Back in Schools, we’re not just improving school food environments — we’re equipping young people with the tools to challenge injustice and create lasting change.
