Meet our Team
Bite Back's activists are backed up by a team of dedicated, passionate staff working hard behind the scenes to make our young people shine. They bring expertise, efficiency, and energy in bucketloads to our work, and are the cogs that make the wheels of change turn.
Every member of staff is upheld to our values of; real, respectful, energetic, fresh, and resilience, whether it's working with our young people, or on a project as a staff team.
Meet the people championing youth-led change below:
D'Arcy
Chief Executive Officer
For marathon runner D’Arcy, becoming the Chief Executive Officer of Bite Back is a commitment he's in for the long run. With a decade of experience across the globe — often fuelled by a Burna Boy playlist — he’s on a mission to ensure every child, no matter their community or country, can access a healthy, thriving food system. “You cannot speak about food injustice without recognising how it's layered within racial and socio-economic inequalities. How it's the kids from the most marginalised backgrounds who grow up in those food deserts or food swamps, where healthy options are out of reach,” says D’Arcy. “It's not right, and it's entirely preventable if we dare to dream.” After his recent work at UNICEF helping shape the global agenda on food systems for children, Bite Back’s future is firmly in capable hands.
Operations Team
Ruth
People & HR Manager
Ruth is well versed in creating a better world as a volunteer for a furniture reuse scheme where she finds new homes for pre-loved furniture. As our HR Manager, she brings that same tenacity to Bite Back, fighting against the inequities of our food system and the relentless push from Big Food to sell us junk. “Junk food giants have the biggest influence on my kids — through social media, advertising on our local high street, on their way to school, and in the local leisure centre,” the nature lover says.
Monica
Senior Finance Manager
Phil
Senior Fundraising & Grants Manager
Policy & Research
Nika
Head of Policy and Research
Proudly part of the Bite Back movement since the very start, Nika wrote our reports on school food and misleading packaging claims – and leads our Food Systems Accelerator programme. She previously worked on advocacy for organisations such as the Elton John AIDS Foundation and Movember. "I don't want to see family members tricked by 'health claims' into purchasing sugary products anymore," she says. "People should have the freedom to choose food that makes them feel good, not just what's cheapest and is advertised the most."
Caitlin
Research Manager
Caitlin, has seen the impact of unhealthy food environments first-hand from her work as a paediatric nurse in the US, and on global food security at the World Food Programme. “Right now, our food system is designed to produce the most food possible at the cheapest cost possible. This means that the profits of big food companies are prioritised over children's health.” With her unique insight, Caitlin is set to reshape our food landscape through solid evidence and research — no more fluff!
Henna
Impact & Evaluation Manager
Public Affairs & Advocacy
Charlotte
Director of Public Affairs & Advocacy
Christopher
Policy & Engagement Executive
Chris has had enough of fast-food notifications pinging like annoying doorbells. A public policy graduate, he’s passionate about promoting equality in the food system, by regulating direct marketing from these companies. “Young people deserve a stress-free food environment that sets them up for success in life,” our Policy and Engagement Executive says, ready to take on any food company that tries to fool us!
Sam
Senior Campaigns Manager
Sam has campaigned to end factory farming, invest in social housing, and tackle climate change with a nature-based approach. He played a key part in CPRE's successful campaign to end fracking in the UK. Sam's amazing dog Rummi, meanwhile, likes eating, running and sleeping. "When low price is the goal, everything else becomes less important," says Sam. "Cheap, unhealthy food is produced in a way that abuses animals and has no regard for human health and the environment."
Hannah
Senior Campaigns & Relationships Manager
As our Senior Campaigns Manager, Hannah’s favourite moments come when she’s chatting with our Youth Activists and watching them hold their own against the giants as they speak truth to power. When she’s not exposing Big Food, Hannah volunteers on a farm, learning first-hand about the challenges of food production. She’s had enough of the deliberate exploitation of Big Food and questions: “How different would it be if healthy options were centre stage?”
Aofie
Campaigns Executive
A Nutrition graduate with a Masters in Public Health, our Campaigns Executive Aoife is literally shaping our streets in her work with local authorities. “Walking down my local high street, it’s impossible to ignore how dominated it is by junk food chains and advertising,” she says. “By limiting unhealthy food ads, local councils and governments could help create healthier high streets and healthier futures.” And when Aoife’s not reshaping our high streets, she’s reshaping the story of high street fashion, as our resident thrifting expert.
Strategy & Campaigns Team
Beth
Director of Strategy and Delivery
Having dedicated her career to campaigning for social causes – from reproductive health to a clean energy transition – Beth has worked with The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, WaterAid, UNHCR and the Jamie Oliver Group to mobilise the public and influence policymakers. "Our broken food system makes life harder for children and families who are already struggling," she says. "Evidence shows that junk food advertising is targeted more heavily at people in lower socioeconomic groups and healthy options are harder to come by in low-income areas. It's outrageous and unjust."
Rory
Senior Manager - Brand Strategy & Narrative
An avid football fan, Rory’s big goal is to “stop junk food giants from sponsoring sports — period.” As our Brand Development Manager, Rory brings a treasure trove of experience from the advertising industry, where he’s seen firsthand the acrobatics Big Food performs to sneak into our lives. He is determined to use his experience to bite back against their tactics and take back control of the narrative. “We should be proud to be giving our youngest generations the opportunity to reach their potential and achieve their ambitions,” says Rory.
DigiComms Team
henry
Head of Communications
Bite Back’s resident music maverick and walking football encyclopaedia, Henry is an award-winning former journalist and lover of pulp fiction. As our Head of Digital and Communications, he brings over 15 years of experience in the non-profit sector — with the likes of CARE International, The British Red Cross, and the UN World Food Programme. Making his mark as a political journalist, Henry has his eyes set on a healthier world: “I envision a food system where every child globally has enough nutritious meals to not only survive but thrive — with the energy to learn, to be creative and innovative.”
Gina
Senior Digital Manager
Having held fundraising and digital roles in the non-profit sector for 10 years, Gina joined Bite Back from Canal & River Trust, and previously co-founded a grassroots campaign to raise awareness of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. "Giant food companies infiltrate youth culture to put their products in the spotlight, without any concern for their effect on the future health of young people or the planet. It's poisoning art, music, and fashion," she says. "I'd like to see colourful, delicious and nutritious meals everywhere – and for them to be affordable."
Will
Digital Senior Manager
lola
Communications And Content Senior Manager
Lola is a true food enthusiast: she loves cooking it, growing it, eating it, and this love is what fuels her day job as our Communications and Content Senior Manager. After working with a wide range of purpose-driven brands, and health food companies, Lola brings a decade of wisdom to Bite Back’s mission, and a vision of the world she wants to see. “Big Food steals all our spaces. Instead of the brightly coloured ads and slogans filling our high streets, wouldn't it be nice to have the vibrant hues of fruit and vegetables or the peaceful tones of plants, filling our communities instead?”
Holly
Senior Comms and Content Manager
Holly is all about thoughtful, strategic moves whether it’s casting an eagle eye over our channels as Senior Comms and Content Manager, or on the tap dancing floor. She has a true passion for activism, and a Masters in Gender, Sexuality and Culture — the perfect mix for her previous role at The Mix. She brings both passion and precision to the team. Her mission? “If all young people had access to healthy food, they would be able to live happier and more fulfilled lives,” says Holly. And with years of experience in amplifying the youth voice, we’re rest assured that she’ll echo our activist’s voices well!
Faheemah
Communications and Digital Campaigns Lead
Nutrition graduate Faheemah enjoys kicking out manipulation in our food culture as much as she enjoys kicking (for training purposes) outside of Bite Back. As our Communications and Digital Campaigns Lead, she looks after our website and emails. "Children are left out of school meals because of bad eligibility criteria, yet a barrage of rubbish is paraded in front of them by big food companies," says Faheemah. "They need breathing space to grow, rather than worrying about food – a basic human right – and where their next meal is coming from."
Carly
Digital Content Producer
While working at Scope, the equality charity for disabled people, Carlotta developed an interest in accessible design – and she brings extensive experience from her Masters in Ethnographic and Documentary Filmmaking to Bite Back's visual content. "I cannot wait for a day where I can leave my house and not feel constant pressure from junk food giants to eat their food," she says. "If we replaced junk food ads with beautiful art, wouldn't our streets look a lot better?"
Programmes Team
Daniel
Head of Programmes
Dan yearns for peace from Big Food but only finds it on the tube — because that’s where junk food ads are a no-show! “Some schools and councils have already listened to young people and are shaping their spaces to be places where the healthy option is the easy option.” As our Head of Programmes, Dan is determined to make this the new normal — leading cohorts of schools across the UK. After navigating three General Elections in five years while working in Parliament, he’s convinced that change is possible!
Andy
Programmes Manager
Armed with a paintbrush and a vision, Andy envisions a world with equal access to healthy food, where socio-economic health disparities fade away like a bad memory. As our Programmes Manager, he draws on a decade of experience in education and charity work through our Bite Back in Schools programme, championing young people’s right to delicious and nutritious food, and a solid education. He muses, “In a world with equal access to healthy food, socio-economic health disparities would diminish. Young people from all backgrounds would have the same opportunities for a healthy life.”
Katie
Senior Programmes & Policy Manager
Destiny
Programmes Executive
Moving from youth activist to staff member, Destiny brings more than insight — she brings lived experience. “As part of the younger generation, I’ve seen how junk food giants hijack meme culture and trends to make their brands feel ‘cool’,” she says. “It's time that these brands stop making a mockery of our health.” Now a Programmes Executive, Destiny supports and inspires young people across the country, and even internationally through her work facilitating UNICEF Jamaica workshops. She knows exactly what it takes to turn youth voice into real-world impact.
The Youth Team
Rhammel
Head of Youth Activist Development
For nearly two decades, Rhammel has been shaking things up and lobbying for change on the issues facing modern Britain. As our Head of Youth Activist Development, he’s passionate about empowering the next generation of activists to do the same, and creating a world where they are free from Big Food. “There's no escape. Many of these companies claim to be delivering a great good to the world when we know they're responsible for so much of the food-related ill-health we see in society.”
Sara
Senior Youth Development Manager
With an MSc in International Development, Sara has worked in INGOs – focusing on child protection and development. She supports our team to keep everything running smoothly. "Food giants trick us into believing their products are good for you," she says. "Supermarkets are flooded with junk, strategically placed to attract your attention. Markets are more my thing – but I still need to go to the supermarket, and it's always a struggle to feel at ease there."
Rachel
Youth Development Manager
Arguably the best job in the house, Rachel works directly with our young activists as our Youth Development Lead. Rachel uses her experience mentoring and promoting life skills in various youth settings to manage the recruitment, development and delivery of our youth experience to more than 50 young people. “It feels like you can’t escape the constant messages telling you what you should crave. And the lack of ingredient transparency? Talk about frustrating!” she sighs.
