Bite Back Hosts Debate Mate: "Should Celebrities Accept Endorsement Deals for HFSS Foods?"

Debate Mate at Bite Back

On Thursday, 5th March, Bite Back hosted the Debate Mate+ Urban Debate League at the Jamie Oliver HQ in London.  Debate Mate is an organization powering social change through world-class communication training.

The evening saw over 50 teens (15-18 year olds) from 3 different schools, all debating the topic "This House believes that celebrities should not accept endorsement deals to sell foods high in fat, salt and sugar"

"If celebrity ads are ineffective, then why do companies pump so much money into them?"

The debates were incredibly insightful and the young people were so passionate about this topic. It was fascinating to hear the arguments for/against from the perspective of teens. Both sides were convincing but in the end, the argument that celebrities should not accept junk food endorsement deals was the strongest!

"It's immoral for celebrities to be accepting these deals."

This evening was part of a bigger partnership with Debate Mate so stay tuned for the next event in Spring, Debate Mate Cup.

"Endorsing junk food is seen as cool. Which it shouldn't be."
